About Me

IMG_0287I am a photographer based in Birmingham, UK. I am in my second year of study on the undergraduate course BA (Hons) Media and Communications (Media Photography) at Birmingham City University. I have taken practical modules in Media Relations, Event and Exhibition Planning, Photography In Design, Image Makers, Editorial and Commercial Photography, and Music Promotion & PR.
My theoretical modules include Media Studies, Photography and New Media, Photography and Visual Culture, and Film Cultures.

As a student studying media, it is in my interest to keep informed with public affairs and new technology. I am a key team member of Birmingham City Universities monthly online magazine “In The City” as a photographer and regularly contribute my own articles.

During both my college and university courses in photography I have attended several sessions devoted to teaching students the skills needed to perform at a high standard when using Adobe Photoshop. From the sessions which I have attended I now feel when confident using most tools available for use in the program and can edit an image to look its best with speed and accuracy. I can work confidently in a photography studio and know many lighting set ups to fit most needs, I have been trained to understand light metering and model positioning amongst other things which are skills that may come in handy should a work brief require studio portraits.

As my course at university teaches me theoretical studies relating to the world of media and photography I know how to deconstruct an image and create meaning through the connotations embedded into the image by the media institution. As my skills allow me to deconstruct images in this manner, I can also construct images in a manner which embeds a particular message and evokes a particular emotion to the viewer.

During my time as a media student at BCU, I have devoted some of my spare time to find various work experience placements to build my own list of media contacts. Placements have ranged from working as a photographer’s assistant, a freelance photographer, an events photographer, and an events intern. The placements I have secured for myself have provided me with a diverse range of new skills and have also allowed me to put the skills I learnt at university to practice in the professional working world. You can find a list of previous photography work experience by visiting my Work Experience page, any testimonials provided by work placement will be shown on my Testimonials page. You can read about my placement at Eye In Media, and my position as an events intern at Aspire 4 U on my Work Experience Blog.

After graduation I hope to find work at an event production company. My work experience at Aspire 4 U has given me invaluable information on how to be professional at creating an event, and by narrowing my photography style to “Band and Live Events” I will have a substantial amount of photographic evidence that I am capable of documenting an event as a photographer. A job which would allow me to plan an event and take pictures during that event would be perfect.
